ATTORNEY GENERAL RAOUL ENCOURAGES PARTICIPATION IN NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

August 05, 2024

More Than 170 Cities in Illinois to Hold Events Intended to Build Safer Communities

Chicago – Attorney General Kwame Raoul encourages Illinois residents to participate in National Night Out events tomorrow to help build safer communities around Illinois.

“Working together to build stronger communities helps build safer communities. National Night Out was started to bring neighbors and law enforcement together to establish relationships and trust that will do just that,” Raoul said. “Preventing crime in Illinois is one of my office’s top priorities, and I am proud that an increased number of volunteers from my office will participate in National Night Out events throughout the state. I encourage everyone to locate an event in their own community.”

Since 1984, the second Tuesday in August has been known as National Night Out. The annual community-building campaign promotes police and community partnerships and neighborhood comradery to make neighborhoods safer. Communities often celebrate the partnership with block parties, festivals, parades and cookouts combined with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events and exhibits.

Staff from the Attorney General’s office will attend 34 National Night Out events with informational tables highlighting the office’s resources across the state in cities such as Arlington Heights, Chicago, East St. Louis, Elmwood Park and Rockford.

Illinois residents can find an event by checking their local police department’s calendar of events, website or social media pages for details. This year, 177 cities in Illinois are listed on the National Night Out website.
